For consumerism I chose to use the Windward Cafe because oftentimes we feel very isolated and disconnected on our campus from the outside and pride ourselves on our environmental goals. But despite this, consumerism is still unavoidable and can be found in places like Windward Cafe. Consumerism has become deeply rooted in our way of life and disentangling it may never be possible. When you look outside the windows of the Windward Cafe, you can overlook the beautiful water and environment that surrounds our campus, and I couldn’t help but think that the snacks and food inside of those doors are contributing the destruction of the beauty that’s outside them.
